In an inspiring blend of hands-on learning and real-world skills, Union City Community Junior and Senior High School is redefining educational experiences through its groundbreaking “Workforce Wednesday” program.
A Bus, A Dream, A Journey
This year, eight ambitious students are doing something extraordinary: converting a decommissioned school bus into a fully functional tiny home on wheels. But this isn’t just a construction project—it’s a comprehensive learning journey that bridges classroom theory with practical application.

Beyond Traditional Learning
The project goes far beyond traditional education:
- Students are learning advanced technical skills
- Practicing real-world problem-solving
- Gaining experience in:
- Insulation techniques
- Solar power installation
- Vehicle modification
- Project management
Community Collaboration
Local businesses like UPC, MCC Sales and Service, and Insulation-HUB aren’t just sponsors—they’re active mentors. Their involvement transforms this from a school project into a community-driven educational experience.
The Road Ahead
Planned for Spring 2025, the students will embark on a national parks tour, showcasing their newly acquired skills and the fruits of their labor. This is more than a bus conversion. It’s about empowering the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and dreamers.
